FAQs
All your beauty training questions answered.
Everything you need to know about getting your beauty training qualifications
Is this a recognised qualification to practise in the beauty industry?
Yes. Many salons know of our high reputation and send their own therapists to us for training. Our NVQ / VRQ courses are approved by the leading industry associations. If you were to take a home course elsewhere you may only receive a salon certificate. You must receive a recognised certificate, such as a VTCT NVQ / VRQ from Beauty Training Harrow, in order to gain valid insurance. You will then be able to work safely within the industry.
Will the NVQ / VRQ from Beauty Training Harrow enable me to get a job?
Yes. You will be able to work within industry – in a salon, spa or for yourself.
What should I consider when choosing a beauty training school?
1. Do the staff have teaching qualifications and are they actively working within the industry? Beauty Training Harrow has been awarded Grade 1 for our teaching methods and we are an established working beauty salon. 2. Will the course enable me to get membership and insurance with one of the beauty associations? Beauty Training Harrow courses do. 3. What kind of support does the school give to students after completing a course? Beauty Training Harrow gives full support to all our students. Please read our recent Student feedback
Can I get insurance after a course at Beauty Training Harrow?
Yes, upon successful completion. All our courses are accredited by the Vocational Training Charitable Trust, BABTAC and the Guild of Professional Beauty Therapists, which can arrange inexpensive insurance.
Can I put down a deposit to pay for my course?
Yes. You can put down a 50 per cent deposit and the balance is due two weeks prior to the start of the course. We regret that deposits are non-refundable.
Are the course lecturers fully qualified?
Yes. Our lecturers hold a Grade 1 teaching qualification and are registered assessors in all the beauty qualifications they teach. Course principal Yvonne Sullivan has almost 20 years’ experience in beauty.
Will I need a kit?
All equipment and products are provided for your training on the day but kits can be purchased from Beauty Training Harrow to be here for the start of your course.
How much practice will I receive on the day?
The day is mostly practical, which will give you the experience you need to master your skill. You will be working on fellow students and models provided by YOU, so you can receive the treatment yourself as well as give the treatment.
What time do the courses start and finish?
On average they run from 9.30am to 4.30pm. Evening courses are from 6pm to 9pm.
What should I wear for the course?
Professional uniform is preferred or a plain white, short-sleeve top and white trousers. A tabard must be worn over your clothes. Jewellery is to be removed and your hair tied back off your face.
Will the course run if there are less than four students?
Yes. All courses will go ahead, although if there is only one person on the course you will be required to bring a model.
What kind of support is offered after attending a course with Beauty Training Harrow?
Full post-course support is offered. This can be done through email, telephone or in person, and all students are encouraged to stay in touch.
English is my second language, will I be able to take the course?
If English is not your first language, and you think you may find our course difficult to understand, then please tell us before you start so we can make arrangements needed for your success on the course. An interpreter can be used to help in the process – this is at your own expense. If students are unable to answer questions written or orally to show a satisfactory understanding of the subject then we reserve the right not to award our NVQ / VRQ, which states that students have “successfully completed a course” to the required standard.
What happens if I have to cancel or postpone my course?
Deposits and course payments are non-refundable (see Terms & Conditions). In the event of a genuine reason for cancellation (of which proof may be required) a request for transfer to a later course will be considered at the discretion of Beauty Training Harrow.
